3 Tips On How to Shop Your Closet for Spring

If you’re anything like me, you love to be fashionable while also being on a budget. So for my recent photoshoot, I decided to try something a little bit different and shop my closet instead of shopping at my favorite stores for new #lewks. I realized that I had timeless and unique pieces even after my routine Spring closet cleanout, and my photoshoot was a great opportunity to put them to use. By shopping my closet, I was able to take a fresh look at my existing wardrobe and appreciate the diverse clothes that I already have. So how did I do it? Get the inside scoop, below.

1. I Got My Closet Ready for Spring:

I put my fall/winter based clothes away and rearranged my closet to reflect the upcoming spring and summer months. It helped me to identify which items needed to be separated by focusing on the texture, color, and weight of the piece. Teal and tan to the front, black and brown to the back.

2. I Looked for Pieces That Gave a Statement:

I’m extremely proud of my closet. I’ve invested in it. Yes, I said invested. Many years have gone into thrifting, upcycling at Crossroads, and lurking for Zara’s sales. Most of my current statement pieces actually reflect the generous hammy downs of my mentor. One of mentors recently gave a few of her fabulous clothes to me… some of the highlights include: a burgundy Prada dress, a colorful Alice + Olivia dress and a lavender BCBG organza dress. When shopping your closet be sure to look for pieces that are unique in their own right.

3. I Followed My Intuition:

Not everything you wear has to follow “style rules” whatever those might be. I happen to love wearing black during every season. My off-the-shoulder Zara dress is the perfect example of bringing the classic color to spring. When dressing up, I follow what feels and looks right for me.
